Some health news reported on L.A. Times blogs:
From L.A. Now:
It may take two or even three H1N1 vaccine shots to get enough immunity against the virus, according to a briefing by the L.A. Department of Public Health. See the story by Rong-Gong Lin II:
‘If two doses of the swine-flu shot are needed, they would be given perhaps three to four weeks apart, said Dr. Jonathan Fielding, Los Angeles County’s health officer, at a news conference this morning.’ The shots are expected to be available in September, and priority will go to highest-risk groups: ‘pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, those who are age 6 months to 24 years and people ages 25 through 64 who have chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.’
Another on L.A. Now, by Kimi Yoshino:
‘Remote Area Medical Foundation organizers continued packing up today after running an eight-day free health clinic at the Forum in Inglewood. The final tally: Volunteers provided 14,561 services to 6,344 patients.’
And a third, by Nancy Rivera Brooks from the California Consumer blog:
‘Albertsons and other grocery chains owned by Supervalu Inc. are recalling frozen Culinary Circle Gourmet Macaroni and Cheese products because the food may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that causes listeriosis, which can be fatal to the young and the elderly.’
