Freezing temperatures, strong winds expected to hit L.A. area

A cold air mass coupled with strong offshore winds is expected to result in freezing temperatures across Southern California on Tuesday morning.
Temperatures could drop to between 10 and 20 degrees in the Antelope Valley, and northeast wind gusts between 35 mph and 50 mph could whip through inland valleys across Los Angeles County, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency issued a wind-chill advisory for the mountains of San Bernardino and Riverside counties above 6,000 feet. Frost advisories and freeze warnings were issued across Southern California.

In mountain areas, officials predicted hard freeze conditions, which could result in outdoor pipes freezing. They also advised residents in valley and mountain areas to keep pets indoors.
On Monday, temperatures in downtown Los Angeles dropped to their coldest level in 23 years, hitting 34 degrees, according to the Weather Service. That set a record low for the date.
Temperatures Monday fell even lower elsewhere, hitting 31 in Redondo Beach, 29 in Claremont and 14 in Lancaster.
