Freud, I am not. Jung? No way. All I must do is hark back to Psych 101 and recall my C-minus average. Yo, at least I passed and I still remember that Pavlov dude and all his pets... um, dogs, I think.
Still, I dared tonight to discuss a little psycho-babble with Coach Lorene Morgan whose Millikan Rams whipped up a 40-point beat-down over Long Beach Cabrillo. ‘Psychologically,’ I asked Morgan, ‘would you say you wanted to win big after what happened with Long Beach Poly the other night?’
‘That’s exactly right,’ she said.
On Friday, No. 2-ranked Poly powered past No. 1 Millikan, which will likely drop out of the top spot when the next rankings roll around on Wednesday.
‘It was important to get out there tonight and just pound,’ Morgan said, ‘and also to work out some kinks fast.’
Courtney Clements and Kalena Tutt did much of the pounding. Clements scored 21 points while Tutt had 12 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks for the Rams (19-3, 7-1).
And I just checked Google -- yes, Pavlov had dogs!
