Channel Islands hoping to stop Oxnard’s run in Pacific League play

Don’t think, not even for a minute, the Channel Islands boys’ basketball team isn’t aware of the fact that Oxnard has had a relatively easy time going undefeated in Pacific League play this season, beating opponents by an average of 17 points a game. We’re talking about two touchdowns and a field goal for crying out loud. Someone must put a stop to this.

Jordan Harris and Henry Cho appear capable, but they’ll need help from Angelo Felix and Tahji Kaigler to keep the Raiders close in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s showdown against the Yellowjackets. If this group doesn’t pull off the upset, no one will, considering Oxnard closes out the regular season against Rio Mesa and Hueneme.

Harris provides a reliable presence on the inside, averaging 15.1 points and 14.8 rebounds a game. Steady on the perimeter, Cho is second on the team with 13.5 points a game. Felix and Kaigler are role players, important role players, and contribute 11.9 and 9.1 points, respectively.

On paper, it appears as if Channel Islands has enough firepower to make things interesting, perhaps make a game of it against a seemingly unbeatable Oxnard team. However, doing so on the court may end up being an entirely different story.
