Girls’ soccer: Sheiks keeping ambitions in perspective

The Hollywood girls’ soccer team is having an excellent season, with a 9-1-1 record going into Tuesday’s game at Contreras. The Sheiks also have a scoring machine in junior forward-midfielder Geyme Guzman, who has followed up last year’s 34-goal season with 31 goals so far this season.

Because seven-time defending champion El Camino Real does not look invincible, the City championship race appears to have several contenders. But Hollywood isn’t one of them.

‘I’d like to play for the [City] title,’ Hollywood Coach Jorge Maldonado said. ‘But realistically I think we more of a contender for the Invitational championship.

‘In the City there are about eight teams that are the upper echelon, and then there’s the rest of us. And I know what we have.’
