His hunger pains are still raging.

Long Beach Poly girls’ basketball Coach Carl Buggs is starving for a third consecutive state crown, and we’ll see if he gets it on Saturday when his Jackrabbits (30-2) play Berkeley (29-3) in the Division I matchup at 6 p.m. in Sacramento’s Arco Arena.

That’s why I love this guy -- his appetite for another title cannot be satiated.

Buggs said all of the ‘Rabbits are starved for additional hardware. Especially after the victory over Narbonne, which led at halftime during their Southern California Regional final. ‘We realize that our season could’ve ended that night,’ he said. ‘If there were any complacency, it’s gone now.’

And all that remains is the hunger for title No. 3.
