One of my fondest summertime memories as a child was was jumping off the big-kid diving board at George Lane Park in Quartz Hill. I always loved drowning out 100-degree, High Desert afternoons with a big cannonball and thanks to some peer-inspired dares, I also discovered how painful belly-flopping could be.
Fortunately, we’re probably not going to see anything reminiscent of our dumber childhood moments at the Southern Section divisional diving preliminaries/championships on Tuesday and Wednesday. Only the top divers in the Southland get invited to these annual pool parties, and I thought I’d pass along the guest lists.
Here are the competitors for each division:
Here are the divisional schedules. Div. I, II and III are Tuesday; Div. IV is Wednesday:
- DIVISION I (Mission Viejo Aquatics Center) -- Boys: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Girls: 3-6 p.m.
- DIVISION II (Westlake HS) -- Boys: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Girls: 3-6 p.m.
- DIVISION III (Cuesta College) -- Boys: 10-11:30 a.m. Girls: 1:30-4 p.m.
- DIVISION IV (Claremont McKenna College) -- Boys: 10-11:30 a.m. Girls: 3-6 p.m.
Now, if you’re worried the boss man won’t let you out of work early two days in a row (you are going to that Dodger game on Wednesday, right?), don’t worry because Dan Arritt and I will keep you in the loop. Arritt is planning to blog from the Division I preliminaries/finals, and I’ll be in Westlake for the Division II meeting.
