A man was clinging to life after a murder attempt in south Santa Ana Monday afternoon, police said.
Officers responding to a report of gunfire about 2 p.m. found Juan Madrigal, 30, with a bullet wound in the head in an apartment in the 800 block of South Townsend Street, Police Sgt. Collie Provence said.
Madrigal underwent emergency surgery in Fountain Valley Community Hospital, where he remained in critical condition and under intensive care Monday night, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.
No motive for the shooting has been uncovered, nor has any suspect been taken into custody, Provence said. An investigation of the attack is continuing.
