Fullerton : Hearing April 23 on Bid to Bar Cable TV Fee Hike
- Share via
The city’s request for a temporary injunction to keep Group W Cable from raising its service charge to 16,000 residential subscribers will be heard April 23 before Orange County Superior Court Judge Philip E. Schwab.
The city filed a lawsuit Wednesday claiming Group W’s plans to deregulate under state law and raise its monthly service charge from $6.45 to $9.95 violate the firm’s contract with the city.
Group W General Manager Jim Bray said the state law permitting the cable company to deregulate and increase its rates superseded the company’s contract with the city, which was signed in 1980. Bray said the company plans to increase its service charge after it files for deregulation on Monday, but he did not say what the increase would be or when it would go into effect.
