Giant Panda Famine Continues

PEKING — Efforts to overcome a continuing shortage of arrow bamboo have failed so far to stem the threat to China’s giant pandas, the New China News Agency reported Sunday. It quoted dispatches indicating that at least six pandas have died in Sichuan province in southwestern China since the beginning of this year and at least one in the Qinling mountains of Shaanxi province.
