East German peace activists urged Washington to work for withdrawal of all Soviet, U.S., British and French troops from the two German states. Two activists entered the U.S. Embassy in East Berlin and handed over an “Initiative for Nonalignment in Europe” signed by 40 people, including a number of clergymen. Witnesses said the two were not hindered in their mission by an East German police guard at the embassy.
