New York Cleans Up 468 Tons of Ticker Tape

NEW YORK — Cleanup crews Wednesday collected 468 tons of shredded paper dumped on Vietnam veterans in their ticker-tape parade the day before.
Sanitation Department spokesman Vito Turso observed that such parades remain a uniquely American tribute. “We are still one of the few societies that throw garbage at its heroes,” he said.
