Millions Requested for Drug War

WASHINGTON — Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III and a group of Republican senators proposed today that an additional $101.6 million be spent this year for new agents, boats, planes and radar to battle illegal drugs.
The money would be spent this fiscal year, which ends Oct. 1, to hire about 2,000 new drug agents and buy more high-speed boats, surveillance aircraft, and radar and communications equipment, according to senators and Administration officials.
