1-Million-Year-Old Mastodon Bones Found

BUDAPEST, Hungary — The bones and well-preserved tusk of a mastodon that lived more than a million years ago were uncovered in a marble mine, the Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet said Thursday.
Workers at the mine in Sutto, about 100 miles southwest of Budapest, discovered the bones, tusk and teeth of the prehistoric mammal when they cut through a chunk of marble, the newspaper reported.
The paper said other artifacts of the period were found at the site. It was the first time such a find was uncovered in Hungary, it said.
