MIAMI — Tropical storm Danny, packing 55 m.p.h. winds that could reach hurricane force, whirled across the Gulf of Mexico today toward the Texas-Louisiana coast, where a 500-mile stretch was braced for an expected landfall Thursday.
A hurricane watch and gale warnings were issued from Port Arkansas, Tex., to the Mississippi River. National Hurricane Center forecaster Jim Gross said the center of the storm could make landfall as soon as noon Thursday.
