A family of six returning from a boating holiday in Mexico suffered extensive burns Sunday evening when their van and boat-trailer overturned and caught fire on Interstate 805, the San Diego Fire Department reported.
A fire spokesman said Javier and Ramona Lopez of Cudahy in Los Angeles County and their four children were hospitalized after their van went out of control and flipped over in the northbound lane north of Interstate 8.
Fire Department spokesman Denis McNeill said the Lopez’s 16-year-old son, Warren, suffered the most severe burns. However, there were no details Sunday night on the condition of the family.
The van and the boat were destroyed, McNeill said.
