Weeping Officer

When I saw your photo of the weeping mounted policeman (Aug. 16), whose horse had to be destroyed because it had been struck by a hit-and-run driver, I thought again of the discourtesy and inhumanity shown by many motorists. They seem to lack decency, human concern and respect for law.
But your simple and splendid photo-essay brought home the terrible act of the unconcerned motorist and the fact that someone personally cared about the destroyed horse--that person being the weeping Officer Alan Keith.
