IRVING, Texas — Rafael Septien’s third field goal, a 24-yarder with three seconds remaining, gave the Dallas Cowboys a 15-13 exhibition victory Monday night over the Chicago Bears.
Third-string quarterback Steve Pelluer engineered the winning drive for the Cowboys (3-0), hitting Duriel Harris with throws of 18 and 8 yards and throwing an 11-yarder to James Jones to set up the deciding field goal.
The Bears (0-3) scored only their second touchdown of the exhibition season with 6:29 left on a 10-yard pass from Mike Tomczak to fellow-rookie James Maness for a 13-12 lead.
Late in the first quarter there were two brief but intense fights. One resulted in the ejection of Dallas defensive tackle Randy White and the other featured a series of overhand rights thrown by the Cowboys’ Ed Jones at Chicago’s Keith Van Horne.
