Girls’ Roundup : Foothill Beats Fountain Valley to Capture Marina-Edison Title

Chris McFerson scored 19 points, 14 in the first half, to lead Foothill High School to a 54-47 win over Fountain Valley in the championship game of the Marina-Edison Tournament at Marina High School.
The Knights (6-1) led at the half, 29-24, and increased that lead to as much as 13 points in the fourth quarter. Tournament most valuable player Felice Geddy had 10 points. The Barons (10-2) were led by Melissa Handley and Dawn Lawler who each scored 11 points.
In other Marina-Edison Tournament action:
Franklin 52, Mater Dei 49 (OT)--Franklin scored all five of its points in overtime on free throws to beat the Monarchs in the third-place game.
Edison 61, El Toro 49--Edison (12-2) was led by Tech Wilson’s 21 points in the fifth-place game.
Esperanza 56, Marina 39--Sharon Warmus scored 25 points for the Aztecs as they took seventh place.
Orange 47, Los Alamitos 38--Suzette Sargeant scored 22 points for Orange in the consolation championship game.
Savanna 48, Corona del Mar 35--The Rebels won the third-place consolation game as their press wore down the Sea Kings Saturday.
In the La Puente Tournament:
La Habra 51, Montebello 46--Robin Seabrook scored 25 points and had 21 rebounds to lead the Highlanders to the tournament championship.
In the Costa Mesa Tournament:
Schurr 49, Estancia--Jennifer Okuno had 16 points to lead the Spartans (7-3) to this first-round win in the Costa Mesa tournament. Estancia is 1-5.
Tustin 51, Chaffey 19--Tricia Andres scored 19 points to lead the Tillers to this first-round win.
South Torrance 77, El Modena 24--Four South Torrance players scored in double figures. Jenny Rosen lead South Torrance with 28 points.
Compton 60, Costa Mesa 26--The top-seeded Tarbabes were led by Mandy Hannah’s 23 points. Sonja Bracken added 16 for Compton (10-2).
Cerritos 80, John Glenn 20--Four Don players scored in double figures led by Yvette Hernadez’ 17 points. Roberta Perry added 16 points for Cerritos (4-2).
Garden Grove 47, Palos Verdes 22--Heather Harl scored 13 points and Sue Barton and Allyson Jenkins each added 10 points to lead the Argonauts.
North Torrance 65, Saddleback 49--Lisa Handy scored 17 points and Jade Hiramoto and Tracy Toma added 15 each to lead North Torrance. Monica Walton led Saddleback with 22 points.
Chino 63, Santa Ana Valley 27--Candida Echeverria and Jeanine Jones each had 23 points to lead the Cowboys (6-1).
