French Hostage Reported Killed

BEIRUT — Islamic Jihad, an underground Shia Muslim faction that has claimed the kidnaping of 10 foreigners in Lebanon, including six Americans, said today it killed one of four French hostages.
A statement delivered to a Western news agency in Beirut said the hostage was “executed” because of French actions toward Muslims. Islamic Jihad identified the dead hostage as Michel Seurat, 37, a researcher at the French Center for Studies and Research of the Contemporary Middle East. Seurat was kidnaped last May 22.
