Golf Roundup : Kite (67) Flies Away to 3-Stroke Lead at Miami

Tom Kite, playing on one of his favorite golf courses, shot a five-under-par 67 Friday to take a three-stroke lead in the second round of the $500,000 Doral-Eastern Open golf tournament at Miami.
“It’s become a kind of mental thing with me,” said Kite, who had a 133 total. “I have good memories here. . . . I feel good; feel I’m going to play well here.”
Tied for second at 136 were Ed Fiori (68), Scotland’s Ken Brown (68) and D.A. Weibring (67).
Mark Calcavecchia, who worked as a caddy on the PGA Tour last week and led the first round of this tournament on Doral’s Blue Monster course, slipped to a 72 and was at 137. Jack Nicklaus (70) was at 140.
Chris Johnson shot a six-under-par 66 for a 135 total and took a one-stroke lead over Juli Inkster in the second round of the LPGA Women’s Kemper Open at Princeville, Hawaii. Inkster set a competitive record for the Princeville Golf Course on Kauai with a 64.
