Santa Ana : Trustees to Purchase Site for High School

Santa Ana Unified School District trustees have approved the purchase of property for a high school and authorized negotiations aimed at acquiring land for two other schools.

A 25-acre site on Grand Avenue between Edinger and McFadden avenues will be sold to the district by Santa Fe Pacific Land Co. for $12.25 million, Assistant Supt. Anthony Dalessi said. The new school, expected to accommodate about 1,800 students in the overcrowded district, is scheduled to open in 1988.

Dalessi will make an offer to buy a 5.75-acre site at 1818 S. Bristol St. for an elementary school, as directed by the board Tuesday night. The land is owned and occupied by Bristol Street Baptist Church. The district would use the church buildings and school for classrooms and offices temporarily. Dalessi declined to say how much the district would offer for the site.

The board also approved appraisals of a third potential school site at 2120 S. Cypress Ave. on property owned by Alliance Church. Plans call for the district’s second continuation high school on the site.
