HIS WORK’S CUT OUT

Nolan Miller, costume designer for the Oscar show, was frantic when Outtakes finally overtook him.
He’s designing costumes for the likes of Barbra Streisand and Melissa Manchester, outfitting for all the production numbers and dispensing advice (diplomatically) so that the clothes and costumes don’t clash. With only days to go, several stars like Debbie Reynolds and Ginger Rogers had yet to be fitted. And he won’t see most gowns and tuxes until today’s rehearsal.
Meanwhile, Miller was also handling outfits for Joan Collins, Linda Evans et al. in his usual job--costumer for “Dynasty.”
How does he manage to pursuade stars of that magnitude to change dresses? “There are some people you have no control over,” he said, “so all you can do is suggest. But I won’t allow them to give me difficulties.”
