Countywide : Safety Project Begun on Car-Pool Lanes
- Share via
Work has begun to improve safety along the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway car-pool lanes. The construction, which began Monday night and continues at 8 p.m. tonight, is expected to be completed on Wednesday.
Improvements will include raised lane markers and nine-inch pylons, designed to provide a barrier between the car-pool lanes and other traffic lanes. Also, entry and exit areas for the lanes will be lengthened along the 11-mile route from the San Diego Freeway to the Riverside Freeway.
During the first phase of the work, the No. 1 southbound lane next to the car-pool lane will be closed, officials said. The lanes, which were opened last November, will be evaluated on a trial basis after one year.
