Lew Hopkins has been elected to a one-year term as mayor of Del Mar by his council colleagues. Acting at their regular meeting Monday night, council members also named Councilwoman Ronnie Delaney deputy mayor.
Hopkins, 66, a soft-spoken retired admiral, was elected to the council two years ago. His appointment to the mayor’s post follows the defeat of former Mayor Arlene Carsten in last week’s municipal election.
Also Monday, newly elected council members John Gillies and Brooke Eisenberg were sworn in. Their two seats were vacated by Carsten and Jim Tetrault, who did not seek reelection.
