Israel Poultry Fraud --It’s Not Kosher

TEL AVIV — Observant Jews in major Israeli cities may pass up their traditional Sabbath eve chicken dinner this week because of a non-kosher poultry fraud, Israel radio reported Wednesday.
Police arrested a Palestinian and an Israeli Jew on charges of selling thousands of pounds of non-kosher poultry wrapped in packaging stamped “kosher” to stores in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and a neighboring suburb, the radio said.
The Sephardic chief rabbi, Mordechai Eliahu, has advised Jews not to buy any pre-packaged poultry until further notice, the radio said.
Kosher chickens are ritually slaughtered under supervision of a rabbi but look and taste like non-kosher chickens.
