53 Arrested in French Crackdown on Terrorism

VERSAILLES, France — In a crackdown on terrorism by the new conservative government, French police on Wednesday arrested 53 people and confiscated explosives and firearms from two detainees, authorities said.
Police would not say whether anyone had been charged. Under French law, people may be held for up to 48 hours without being charged.
