MIDDLE OF THE RODEO

“HEARTBREAK HIGHWAY.” Rubber Rodeo. Polygram.
With a name like Rubber Rodeo, you might expect this outfit to be yet another twanging and banging cowpunk band. Instead, the group offers a lightweight blend of middle-of-the-road pop and country that doesn’t carry a whole lot of punch. With the exception of the spirited title cut and “When Worlds Collide,” these are the kind of ho-hum love-gone-wrong songs you’d expect to come from Rita Coolidge or Anne Murray. The group’s biggest asset is singer Trish Milliken, whose rich, soothing voice can no doubt tackle grander things than this.
