Relax and Enjoy--Summery Weather Will Stick Around

The mild Santa Ana condition caressing Southern California with blue skies and summery temperatures will hold on through Monday, forecasters say.
Temperatures are expected to come down a bit today and a bit more Monday, with more of a cooling trend along the coast, as a high pressure system breaks down. “Just relax and enjoy,” said Frankie Shaw, a National Weather Service specialist.
In San Diego, the temperature reached 82 at Lindbergh Field, while inland areas such as El Cajon, Escondido, Fallbrook and Borrego made it into the high 80s.
In Los Angeles, it was down right hot as the Civic Center registered 88 degrees. But it was hotter still in Long Beach, which reached 92 degrees.
Throughout the Southland, from Los Angeles to San Diego, hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the beaches, greeted by pleasant ocean temperatures of up to 62 degrees.
Today’s high in San Diego should range from about the mid-70s along the coast to the mid-80s farther inland, reaching into the low-90s in the deserts. Lows are forecast for the high 50s overnight.
Lifeguards up and down the Southern California coastline reported many rescues, even though surf was only 1 to 3 feet. People wading in waist-deep water sometimes found themselves in over their heads because of inshore holes dug by recent storms, explained Randy Degregori, a lifeguard at Hermosa Pier. The combination of riptides and out-of-shape swimmers also posed a problem, lifeguards said.
“We were pretty doggone busy, just like a summer day,” Degregori said.
