Florida State Beats Indiana State, 5-3; Pitcher Ties Mark

OMAHA — Mike Loynd struck out 10 and tied the NCAA Division I record for single-season victories as Florida State beat Indiana State, 5-3, in the first round of the College World Series Saturday night.
Loynd (20-1) equaled the major college mark held by Hawaii’s Derek Tatsuno, who won his 20th game in 1979 in the NCAA West Regional against Indiana State.
Florida State (58-11) will face Miami (47-15) Tuesday night in a winners’ semifinal. Miami beat Oklahoma State, 6-2, Saturday.
Indiana State (48-20) will meet Oklahoma State (54-14) in an elimination game tonight. That game follows an elimination contest between LSU (54-13) and Maine (41-22).
