CFA Seeks Recruiting Ban on Boosters

The College Football Assn. proposed Sunday in Dallas that all boosters be banned from the recruiting process.
The CFA, made up of all Division I-A football-playing schools except the Big Ten and Pac-10 conferences, adopted the proposal at the conclusion of their 10th annual convention.
By a unanimous vote of the 43 members present, the CFA adopted the resolution, which recommended that representatives of athletic interests be prohibited from all recruiting, including telephone calls and letters, until a prospect signs a grant-in-aid.
The CFA has no rule-making authority, but the proposal will be taken to the NCAA at its annual convention January in San Diego.
“I think it has a good chance of passing,” Georgia Coach Vince Dooley said.
