Sanctions Against South Africa

What a wonderful message for the new year! The United States has imposed economic sanctions on South Africa!
While I have heard the various analyses that explain that the impact will not be as great as we imagine it will be, all I could think of what it must feel like to be a black South African today.
The only comparison I could come up with is what it might have felt like for my mother, as a Jewish teen-ager in Vienna, if the United States and Western Europe had had the foresight to economically strangle Nazi Germany 48 years ago.
