The good Samaritan killed last week when he was hit by a tractor-trailer on the Golden State Freeway as he was aiding a woman involved in an earlier accident has been identified as Todd Anske, 31, of Tujunga, the Los Angeles County coroner said Saturday.
The accident occurred at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday near Newhall, California Highway Patrol Officer Carla Bittner said. A late-model sports car driven by Kimberly Necessary, 19, of Valencia had struck the center divider of the freeway and stalled in a northbound lane.
Anske stopped his car to offer help, Bittner said.
The northbound truck hit Necessary’s car, went out of control, overturned and struck Anske, who was on the right shoulder of the highway. He died at the scene, Bittner said.
The truck driver, Richard Watts of Burbank, was treated for moderate injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. Bittner said Necessary, who was treated for unspecified injuries at the hospital, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
