NEW YORK — An 18th-Century writing desk was sold Friday for more than $2 million, the highest amount ever paid for a piece of furniture, a spokesman for Sotheby’s auction house said.
The desk, a porcelain mounted tulipwood secretary made in 1780, was one of 120 items auctioned during a sale of French furniture. It was sold to an anonymous bidder for $2,090,000.
