Hawthorne High School Player Collapses on Field and Dies

A Hawthorne High School football player collapsed on the field during a game Friday night and died later at Robert Kennedy Hospital in Hawthorne, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Jeff Chai, a senior, collapsed with 32 seconds left in the game between Hawthorne and Culver City at Hawthorne. According to a witness, paramedics attempted to revive Chai before transporting him to the hospital, where he died at approximately 10:45 p.m., the hospital’s Madonna Bartasavich said. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Chai was listed in a recent program as a 6-foot, 210-pound guard.
