The moves to substantially decrease operating expenses include reducing staff by 240 employees and salaries at its Beaverton, Ore. headquarters by an average of 10%. In August, the maker of high-performance scientific computers reported a loss and reduced its work force about 12%; last month it underwent a management shakeup. Additional losses are expected in the just-ended quarter.
