Southern Section Water Polo : Maher’s Overtime Goal Helps Los Alamitos Down Downey, 9-8

Dave Maher scored a goal with 40 seconds remaining in overtime to give Los Alamitos High School a 9-8 victory over Downey in the second round of the Southern Section 3-A water polo playoffs at Cerritos College.
The Griffins (17-10), who finished second in the Empire League behind El Dorado, were led by Tom Anderson and Jeff Wimbash with two goals apiece.
In other 3-A second-round action:
El Dorado 19, Glendale 3--Kernit Seaton scored six goals and Mike Tillman added five for the No. 1-seeded Golden Hawks (23-4) at Caltech in Pasadena. Freshman goalie Matt Maclear had seven saves for El Dorado.
San Clemente 12, Muir (Pasadena) 9--Mike Burke and Tino Perone each score four goals to lead the Tritons (18-6) at Caltech. Greg Morris scored three goals and Troy Sanders added one for San Clemente, the South Coast League champion.
St. John Bosco 9, Mission Viejo 8--Chris Berry scored three goals for the Diablos (11-15) in a losing effort at Mission Viejo. Goalie Kirk Denison had seven saves for Mission Viejo.
