Head-on Crash Of 2 Pickups Kills Lakesider, Injures Baby

LAKESIDE — A 31-year-old Lakeside man was killed and a 7-month-old boy was injured Sunday when two pickup trucks collided head-on on Los Coches Road in Lakeside.
Authorities identified the dead man as Edwin Eugene Rock, who was pronounced dead at AMI Valley Medical Center at 4:58 p.m.
Rock was driving north on Los Coches Road at 4:10 p.m. when he braked to avoid a turning car at the intersection of Wellington Hill Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Rock’s vehicle then swerved into the southbound lane, hitting an oncoming pickup truck, authorities said.
The injured child, Scotty Lopshire III, a passenger in the second vehicle, suffered major injuries and was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital, where his condition was listed as fair. His parents were treated there for injuries and released, authorities said.
