La Verne Advances in Volleyball Playoffs

SAN DIEGO — Kelly Childs had 13 kills and Julie Jeffers added 12 Thursday night to lead La Verne to a 12-15, 15-5, 15-6, 15-4 victory over Cal State San Bernardino in the first round of the NCAA Division III Western Regional women’s volleyball playoffs at UC San Diego.
The victory sends La Verne (20-5) into the regional semifinals at 8 o’clock tonight against No. 1-ranked UC San Diego (38-6).
In another first round match Thursday, Colorado College defeated Methodist College (North Carolina) in three games, 15-6, 15-87, 15-11.
