Northridge Women Open With Victory

Marianne Dixon and Julie Middleton made short jump shots in the final 14 seconds Friday as the Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team opened its season with a 62-61 victory over Cal State Chico in the first round of the Lions Club tournament at Cal Poly Pomona.
Dixon’s shot from the key with 14 seconds left put CSUN ahead to stay, and Middleton added a basket seven seconds later to give the Lady Matadors a 62-59 lead.
Chico scored at the buzzer.
Dixon led CSUN with 19 points and added nine rebounds. Middleton scored 17 points.
