Stanford Top-Seeded in Water Polo Event; USC, UCLA to Compete

Stanford will take a 42-match winning streak into today’s first round of the NCAA water polo tournament at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.
The top-seeded Cardinal (33-0) will meet Air Force (6-16) at 3 p.m.
At 4:30, USC (15-11) will play Pepperdine (21-9).
At 6, California (26-6) will play Brown (21-7).
And at 7:30, UCLA (21-7) will play Navy (27-6).
Stanford, a strong-swimming team known for its fast break, is the defending champion and has won five NCAA titles in the last 11 years under Coach Dante Dettamante.
The tournament will continue Saturday, and the championship game will be played at 7:30 Sunday night.
