Frank O’Mara of Ireland ran the fastest indoor mile of the season in 3:53.42 at the Brown University meet at Providence, R.I.
Jim Spivey of the United States finished five yards behind O’Mara in 3:55.71. Jose Abascal of Spain was third in 3:56.74.
The world indoor mile record of 3:48.78 is held by Eamonn Coghlan of Ireland.
