Toronto Ends Six-Game Losing Streak With an 8-4 Victory Over Philadelphia

TORONTO — The line of Peter Ihnacak, Rick Vaive and Steve Thomas teamed up to lead Toronto to an 8-4 victory Monday night over the Philadelphia Flyers, ending the Maple Leafs’ six-game losing streak.

Ihnacak scored twice and had three assists, Thomas had a goal and three assists and Vaive a goal and two assists.

Gary Leeman also paced the Toronto attack with two goals, allowing the Maple Leafs to gain only their fourth victory in their last 16 games. The loss was the second in a row for the Flyers, who are starting a four-game trip.

Al Iafrate and Jeff Jackson also scored for the Leafs, who moved within a point of fourth-place Chicago in the Norris Division.

The Flyers, who got goals from Tim Kerr on the power play, Dave Brown, Derrick Smith and Brad McCrimmon, on a short-handed effort in the third period, fell to 34-15-4. They remain tied with Edmonton for the best overall record in the National Hockey League. Flyer goaltender Glenn Resch was peppered with 42 shots, 31 after the first period. Ken Wregget, who played a steady game in the Toronto nets, turned back 20 shots.
