Orange County Prep Soccer : El Modena Hands Canyon Its First League Loss, 3-1

El Modena High School overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit Friday and upset Canyon, 3-1, in a Century League soccer match at Canyon.
Brian Hoey scored six minutes into the second half to tie the score, 1-1, and Mario Tapia added a goal 20 minutes later to give the Vanguards (2-3-2 in league) the lead. Martin Noren scored El Modena’s final goal.
Brian Lu scored for Canyon (5-1-2 in league).
Villa Park 2, Santa Ana Valley 1--Jeff Peterson’s goal off an assist by Richie Skinner with five minutes left in the first half gave the Spartans (4-1-3, 13-2-4) the victory at Villa Park.
Lawrence Lehmuth gave Villa Park a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 20-minute mark. Manop Phinouwong tied it for Villa Park with a goal 10 minutes later.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 3, Sonora 1--Steve Fichelberg scored two first-half goals as the Lancers (7-1, 12-2) clinched at least a tie for the league title at Sonora.
Troy 2, Fullerton 0--Brian Knispel and Tim Ashbrock scored as the Warriors (5-3, 16-3-2) shut out the Indians (2-6, 4-12) at Troy.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Woodbridge 2, Laguna Hills 1--Dave Galas and Jeff Smith scored for the host Warriors (5-1-2), who moved into a first-place tie with the Hawks. It was Smith’s 14th goal of the season. Mike Goodman had 21 saves for Woodbridge.
Pat Richards scored for Laguna Hills (6-2) with 10 minutes left.
Orange 3, Trabuco Hills 0--Joe Sanchez, Joe Morales and David Shill scored as the Panthers (5-3, 14-7-1) defeated the Mustangs (2-6, 9-8-2) at Orange for their fourth straight victory. David Bjorklund made three saves to earn his 10th shutout.
Laguna Beach 6, Costa Mesa 0--Jeff Poe and Scott Bondra scored two goals each and Brandon Cope and Ryan Phillips scored one each for the Artists (4-2-2).
In the Sea View League:
Newport Harbor 1, Saddleback 0--Senior Travis Carr scored on a penalty kick in the final minute of the game for the first-place Sailors (7-2, 12-5-1).
Corona del Mar 2, Tustin 0--Chris Slocum and Pat Callahan scored to lead the Sea Kings (4-2-2, 7-6-3) past the Tillers (4-2-2, 11-6-3) at Tustin.
In girls’ soccer:
In the Angelus League:
Mater Dei 7, St. Paul 0--Seven players--Christi Keller, Laura Spinner, Brenda Buechler, Saule Sanunas, Michelle Carbone, Tina Namfrey and Kim Rubi--scored for the first-place Monarchs (6-1-1, 13-5-3) in their Angelus League victory over visiting St. Paul.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 8, Anaheim 0--Debbie Laport and Kameron Sweeney scored three goals each and Tricia Smaldino added two as the Tigers clinched the Orange League championship by routing the Colonists at Valencia.
