One man was killed and another was in serious condition Monday after a stolen truck in which they were riding crashed in the Balboa Park area, San Diego police said.
The dead man, who was not identified, was riding in the back of the truck about 10 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle struck a rail after failing to make a turn on 26th Street as it was approaching Pershing Drive at a high rate of speed, Sgt. Tom DeChandt said. The man was hurled from the truck, trapped under the tumbling vehicle and died at the scene, police said.
An unidentified passenger was taken to Mercy Hospital in serious condition with neck and back injuries. The driver of the truck fled, DeChandt said.
