Looters Confess After Treatment on Gallows

TEHRAN — Four men confessed to looting bombed buildings after they were strung up by their hands on a public gallows in the northwestern Iranian city of Rezaiyeh, the newspaper Kayhan reported Monday.
It quoted city officials as saying the action was taken to make the men known to the people.
The officials said 26 thieves have been arrested in Rezaiyeh for stealing from houses damaged by Iraqi air raids. They warned that thieves taking advantage of the situation after air raids will receive maximum punishment.
