Orange County College Roundup : Chapman Wins in Ninth

Chapman College scored a run in the ninth inning on two Cal Lutheran errors to win, 3-2, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Hart Park.
After a leadoff walk to Tony Gardea, shortstop Dennis Mihelic kicked a ground ball by Chapman pinch-hitter Bucky Bollinger, sending pinch-runner Duke Chinen to second. Bryan Beals singled to load the bases, and Jeff Morrison grounded to Mihelic, whose error let Chapman score the winning run.
Jim Bennett (1-1) gave up five hits, two runs and an error in nine innings for the Panthers (4-3).
In other baseball action:
UC San Diego 21, Christ College of Irvine 6--Glen Turnipseed hit a grand slam and a two-run homer to pace UC San Diego at Irvine. Turnipseed was 5 for 6 with 9 runs batted in and Brian Rude was 4 for 6 with 3 RBIs. Starter Rick Nowak (3-0) pitched five innings for the victory. UCSD is 4-3. Christ College is 0-6.
In men’s tennis:
Cal State Fullerton 9, Westmont 0--The Titans, led by No. 1 singles player Driss Benomar, won easily at Westmont. Benomar defeated Westmont’s No. 1 player Greg Nations, 7-6, 7-6. Fullerton (3-5) meets Saddleback Thursday at 2 p.m at Saddleback.
