A major business restructuring, which included a provision for $365 million against earnings in 1985, contributed to Akron, Ohio-based B.F. Goodrich’s profit in 1986 after posting a loss the prior year. “This past year was a transitional period for us as we strengthened our balance sheet and essentially completed our restructuring program,” a spokesman said. Profitability was helped in 1986 by a reduction in interest expense. However, full effect of this reduction on interest expense would only be visible in 1987, he added.
