Hit-Run Driver Kills 2 Women

A Van Nuys woman and her sister-in-law were killed by a hit-and-run driver as they were crossing a San Fernando Valley street on their way home from church, police said today.

Won Jo Yoo, 63, and her sister-in-law, Oak Soon Yoo, 65, who was visiting from China, were halfway across Sherman Way east of Kester Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. Thursday when they were hit by a speeding pickup truck, Officer Mike Ewing said. They were not in a crosswalk, he said. The victims were returning to Won Jo Yoo’s apartment after attending evening services at the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys on Sherman Way.
