‘Racism Is on the Rebound’
Haywood characterizes his fellow (white) jury members in a blatantly prejudicial and stereotyped (read “racist”) way.
I am a school teacher, but I am not “frumpy.”
My accountant is an attractive lady with an “endearing smile,” but definitely not “balding.”
My nephew rides a motorcycle for pleasure, but I would hardly characterize him as “helmet-toting.”
My mother was a housewife, but never once “dizzy.”
I heartily approve of Haywood’s major premise, but if he is to effectively awaken a sleeping populace to the prevalence and dangers of the stereotyped thinking that results in racism he should perhaps start with a self-examination and begin to practice what he preaches.
